here’s another example of using an nd grad filter. the day i shot this the sky was extremely bright and was getting blown out as in the first picture below:

after applying the nd grad filter (a cokin P121 M) the sky becomes more manageable:

it’s only a subtle difference but it’s the subtleties that help bring an image to life.
