circular polarizer

so how does a circular polarizer affect a photograph?

here are two shots of the same scene.

in the first shot i’ve used the polarizer to filter out as much of the blue in the sky and green from the shrubs as i possibly can.

and in shot two i’ve rotated the polarizer 90 degrees to make the blue and green pop as much as possible.

this example isn’t perfect because as you can see in both photos the polarizer, because it is on a wide angle (11-14mm 2.8 tokina) lens, turns only a portion of the sky bluer rather than the entire thing.  with a narrower field of view you wouldn’t notice this as much.
