Photog Phriday – Kathy Adams

Thanks to Kathy for sending in her favorite photograph this week.  To read more about Kathy you can view her work here: http://hiscreationsviame.smugmug.com/.

Kathy, maybe you can tell us a bit more about this image in the comment section?  Where was it taken.  Why did you frame the photograph in this manner?  What settings did you use in the camera to achieve this effect?  What did you do the the digital darkroom (DD) to finish it?

  1. Sure thing, Jason:

Where: Creamer’s Field in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Why: My love of what I call “leading lines” caused me to frame the photo this way. I am trying to get the “perfect” fence photo where the eye is drawn right into the photo to something further away. I would have liked this fence to curve more to the left as it traveled away from the foreground but I am pretty happy with it any ways.

I took your advice, Jason, and knelt down beside the fence to get a different perspective. I really like how that worked! I focused the lens so the fence was exactly where I wanted it on the right side of my view finder.

Equipment: Sony A700 camera; Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 lens with polarizing filter at 35mm focal length, f16,ISO 100. I usually always shoot RAW and in Manual Mode.

In Photoshop Elements 8, I added a bit of brown color and used the Orton effect to make the photo look dreamy. If you do a search on the web for orton effect you will find the instructions – of if you want, I can give you the instructions – but will take more space. Just let me know.

Thank you for posting the photo, Jason – it was fun!
