Inflight

Sometimes it is helpful to have a goal when shooting for an extended period of time to help stay focused.

My focus for this time at Creamer’s Field was to capture the birds in flight.  By using AF-C for my auto focus mode the camera is able to continuously track the subject.  One way to help with drawing the viewers attention to your subject is to use a large aperture (small number) such as f/2.8 to minimize the depth of field.  I love how this throws the background way out of focus.

The first photograph demonstrates this fairly well, while the last one can’t because there’s a rain cloud overhead and there’s really nothing to put out of focus.
