In the days of film, or so I’ve been told, there was thing thing called ISO. Every time you doubled your ISO number you actually doubled your film’s sensitivity to light.
Enter the digital age. We still have ISO. Nowadays when you double your ISO number you’re doubling your sensor’s sensitivity to light. Most dSLR sensors start at ISO 100 or 200 depending on the camera brand.
Here are six photos; each one with a doubled ISO number beginning with 200 and ending with 6400. As you can see the photos get brighter and brighter with each photo because the sensor is more sensitive to the light allowed through the lens.
